We're Back! The 2020 Sarah Awards and PodTales Online Festival and Awards Ceremony

It’s been a while and we have missed you! Thank you all so much for your patience as we took a year off from The Sarah Awards to dream about how we could grow and better support the audio fiction community. During our sabbatical, we were ecstatic to see the launch of the inaugural PodTales conference in 2019. With that, a light bulb went off and we asked ourselves, “What if we combined forces? Could PodTales and The Sarah Awards create a Justice League of Audio Drama?” Our original idea was to gather in person at Sarah Lawrence College this fall and see everyone’s gorgeous faces at the college’s new Barbara Walters Campus Center. Then the Covid pandemic hit and put an end to those plans.

But that did not stop our dreams.

So we got to work organizing this year’s Sarah Awards ceremony and PodTales online audio fiction festival. It’s an exciting program that will launch in November and have three weekends worth of incredible programming and celebrations. Discover everything PodTales here. The three weekends will all lead up to this year’s The Sarah Awards Ceremony where we will awards to the best audio fiction from around the world.

Getting On with James Urbaniak

Getting On with James Urbaniak

James Urbaniak is the kind of podcaster that other producers love to hate. His show, Getting On with James Urbaniak, consists of nothing but a single voice reading a fictional soliloquy, often written by someone else. There is almost no elaborate soundscaping, no intricate plot development, little evidence of endless editing sessions to get the thing just right. Getting On sounds like Urbaniak cruised into the studio, an iced latte in hand, and finished recording before his drink grew tepid. None of this would be infuriating if the podcast in question wasn’t so good. Read More
